My Heart Is Cracked Open

There are so many shifts happening in my life, that my heart has been cracked open and I feel this immense love for everyone. We are in the month of May and in just a few days my Babalawo will be back in town and this time, it will be my turn to do a ritual.

I had a period of low vibration energy which felt a bit of a test from the universe and spirit to see if I had indeed learned what I needed to. I believe I did. I’ve meditated, gone back to nature, pampered myself and have finally stepped out into the world and this time I want to be seen.

For the longest time, I’ve wanted to remain in the shadows, not to be seen and bring little to almost no attention to myself. But why? When we are born to shine?

When you live more in truth, honest with yourself it’s like you’re suddenly cracked open. I have expanded, learned to let go of some things, forgive myself and just love. Love to love. Love all, everyone even if it’s hard. The world needs a little more compassion and love. When you heal yourself you heal the world.

Spirituality Or Division?

Many astronomers will tell you that we are in the long-awaited “Age of Aquarius”. Although there has been a lot of debate between astrologers about when it actually starts, you can’t help but notice that there is some sort of spiritual awakening happening.

There seems to be an explosion of people who have started their own spiritual journey, which I find really encouraging and it makes me hopeful for the future. With that said, I’ve started to pay closer attention to the spiritual pages that I follow on social media and I noticed something that seemed quite troubling, The underline division dressed up as spirituality. It’s so subtle that I missed it.

As much as I celebrate this new era of being awakened and returning to yourself, the bottom line is that “spirituality” is the hot commodity. Many people seem to be hopping on the bandwagon. There are many who are doing it to really be that “light” among all the chaos, while others are doing it for the money grab. That’s just the reality of it.

I was randomly scrolling on my Instagram home feed when I noticed a particular page, what made me pause and really pay attention was the language. They were using astrology as a way to explain what is happening in a certain part of the world. Although it may be a fact, there was this underline anger and division that was causing quite the chatter. Those who agreed and those who were calling this particular person out for creating a divide in a time of need when people should be coming together. I began to look back at their posts. When it came to particular political event there was this underline divide again. There’s this undertone anger that was being justified by what was happening in the cosmos.

This struck a nerve, I have been lucky enough to have met an amazing astrologer. She is an absolute beacon of light andlove. That I couldn’t help but compare this individual to her. Perhaps that isn’t what we should do, but it’s such a human reaction. I called her up to start a conversation about it. Of course, the conversation would go back to my natal chart and being completely split in the middle that I critically think about everything. However, she did mention that there are a lot of people who are hiding under the umbrella of “spirituality” and are doing the complete opposite. . Yes, planet alignments can affect certain events in ones’ life, but they’re not an excuse to be mean.

We have our free will. We have been given the gift of free will. Of being conscious of how we react, what we consume, what we want to portray outward into the world. Here we are annoyed by the division and here are these people who have thousands of followers still creating a divide and pushing an agenda that does the complete opposite. It’s so subtle that it can go unnoticed unless you are present and paying full attention to what you are consuming.

With these brand new set of eyes, I started closely inspecting the pages that I followed. Paying close attention to the language and how things were presented. I was amazed by the underline divide and the little anger hidden among some posts. I clicked unfollow and sent love and clarity. All these pages involved people claiming “sprituality” or being “awakened” in some shape or form. Their posts were creating the complete opposite.

The world doesn’t need any more division. It needs love and understanding. While it can be such a human thing to be frustrated and react out of anger, Do not stay there, we are in an age where our actions will have a big impact in our world of tomorrow. How wonderful would it be to have a world where people present and loving even if they don’t agree?

I have a challenge for you, look at who you follow and pay close attention to what they say, the tone, the overall message. You might just be surprised with what you might find.

I caught Covid-19

It’s been a while. I left without meaning to and it was completely unexpected. I ended up getting Covid-19. Boy it was quite the experience. As weird as it may sound, I am grateful for the experience. It has grounded me and it has helped my spiritual practice.

One thing about Covid is that the symptoms are so different for all those who have had it. I got a further understanding of the complexity of this new virus that is here to stay. That’s the bottom line… it is here to stay. It has changed the way we interact with each other. Will we ever go back to how things were, I am not sure… maybe to some extent but not fully.

My symptoms started with a simple congestion and a feeling of like a sore throat. I woke up the next day and I felt gross, my voice was gone I sounded completely ill. I started researching symptoms because intuitively I felt like I had the corona virus. I did a test as I usually do every week for work but my gut was telling me I had caught it. I went into quarantine not even leaving my bedroom. Sure enough, a couple of days later my suspicion were confirmed, I as well as several workers had caught the virus.

Luckily my symptoms were not worse than a flu. I did lose my sense of smell for about a day and half but I think that was due to just being so congested. What did I do and how did this turn spiritual?

For one: I was forced to slow down during Mercury Retrograde, I mean right at the beginning. I meditated a lot. I counted my blessings because for a while I got a bit angry. I had a moment were I was annoyed that I had caught when I was doing everything that I was supposed to. I don’t go out unless it’s necessary and I am still required to come into work… and I caught it. Goes to show that anyone despite doing it all can catch it.

I looked inward and tried to find the bigger lesson. I flipped the script and took the pause as a blessing. For one I was probably getting the rest that my body desperately needed, I used the moment to meditate and read. Look for all the miracles and the blessings that I had daily. Just being able to finally breathe, wake up to see the sun shinning. Having a roof over my head.

Our bodies are amazing— the fact that we can take on this new virus and have the antibodies to get healthy. I wasn’t prescribed any medication. I didn’t even receive an inhaler. Basically my doctor said to just treat it like a flu and I was cleared to go back to work after 10 days.

This post isn’t to minimize the dangers of the virus. Or to say not to take it seriously. Absolutely still take all the precautions and maintain your social distance. The virus is so complex and affects us all so differently. At the same time— know that your body is strong enough to tackle it. As long as your healthy and have a positive mindset.

Sending all of the light and love out into the world We’ll get through this!

A Little Magic In A Pot!

Hello Beauty Lovers!

I hope everyone is hanging in there and staying healthy! We are slowly seeing things reopen in my state. Although Governor Newsom has left it to the counties to decide when it’s the best time to start reopening.

During this time, I have noticed that a lot more people who have quarantine at home have used this time to really work on their skincare. I think that is amazing! My philosophy is; your makeup will always look better when you have an amazing base specifically skincare. I love to pamper and make my on little cocktail of serums to help plump my skin. The better the skin looks, the less full coverage products you need!

One area that I am more conscious about is the under eye. I tend to have dark circles due to lack of sleep and it can sometimes get very dry.  It is a must that I add an under eye serum. My favorite is the one from “Good Molecules” (a blog post on all of their products coming soon) and follow it up with a nice hydrating eye cream.

I know there is a bit of a debate on whether eye cream is necessary; but given my needs, it is a step that I always like to incorporate into my skin care routine. For the past six months, I have been using Charlotte Tilbury Magic Eye Rescue. This product is promoted as being a “hydrating cream that is clinically proven to help the appearance of dark circles in just 8 weeks”. It cost about $60 dollars for 15 ml.  I ordered mine on the Beautylish website.

According to the website—this does have retinol which does help with the appearance of fine line and wrinkles. As well as Saccharide isomerate to add hydrating and firm and brighten. The consistency is quite thick. In fact, a little goes a long way. It’s a rich product without feeling greasy or too heavy.

The first thing I noticed is how bright my under-eye area looked. It felt nice and moisturized and really added a look of being awake. This cream adds a beautiful luminosity that just performs well underneath makeup. I didn’t notice my concealer bunching up or slipping at all. There is a slight fragrance that is not overpowering. In fact, I can’t smell it at all once it has been applied to the skin. I love how rich the consistency is! Although the price is quite up there, it is such a beautiful eye cream that will give you a bang for your buck! A little will be more than enough and will leave your under-eye feeling nice and most important, hydrated! I highly recommend it! For all of my mature beauty queens out there—this is a must have. It works that well on just all skin-types!

I can’t recommend this product enough! I think this is a beautifully designed cream that will last you for months! I am adding this to my list of products to repurchase because I just love it that much! In fact, I got my 70-year-old mother to start using it.

I hope you found this review useful! If you tried any this or any of her products, leave me a comment and let me know! I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! I’ll be back next week with a makeup review on a Natasha Denona Product!

Stay beautiful!

Product Review: Altilis Beauty

Hello My Dear Readers,

I have been on a roll when it comes to my skincare. Not because I am wearing less makeup— but I am loving how the skin looks on my makeup free days. I have been experimenting with a few products for some time. I like to really take my time when it comes to reviewing skin care items. It takes more than two weeks to effectively see if a certain moisturizer or serum is in fact working.

Today I am reviewing the indie brand Altilis Beauty Line. I bought the entire line a few months back and it is all I have been using on my face. I learned about the brand back when it was still owned and operated by Kenna Whitnell who does have her own YouTube channel. She did a video that provided viewers with an in depth look at her skincare line. She mentioned that her skincare line uses breadfruit and other sustainable ingredients proven to help your skin. I like that the line was created using a natural extract which was being sourced sustainably and given Kenna’s background as a chemist, I decided to give it try.

The entire line which is listed as Infloressence on the website. It comes with the cleanser, the serum and the moisturizer that can be used both day and night. At the time of my purchased, this cost me about $80. Since then, it seems that the price has gone up and it is currently listed on their website for around $90.99. Another big change, Kenna no longer owns the Altilis Beauty line. She made a YouTube video revealing why she parted ways with the line that she created.

I tried really hard to love this line… but the products somehow made my skin drier than normal. The cleanser worked fine, it doesn’t feel like it leaves my skin too stripped. The biggest issue that I had was with the serum and the moisturizer. The serum feels a little too emollient and almost greasy. I did not like the feeling of it at all on my skin. I would wait about a minute to let it absorb into my skin, but the greasy feeling was still there. I added the moisturizer and it didn’t feel like I was putting anything on my skin. Despite feeling greasy, it didn’t feel like I was adding the ingredients needed to really give my skin the much needed moisture. It felt greasy while and tight at the same time. I needed to add a little of my “Good Molecules Squalane Oil” to really feel like I was adding moisture.

Since, I spent $80 on this line, I kept using them while waiting for my skin to get used to the new ingredients. Sadly, it was a lot of the same thing. Greasy while also still managing to feel really dehydrated. I found this really bizarre because on the website, the products are promoted as helping to restore the skin’s natural moisture barrier. I imagine that my skin simply did not like the breadfruit ingredient or it just didn’t have what I needed for my dehydrated skin. For those who have a sensitivity to smells, there is a bit of a smell that is almost acidic. I can quite place my finger on it so I assume it’s simply a smell from the breadfruit flower.

I have used up all of products in this line—and I will definitely not be repurchasing. The ingredients just didn’t react well to my skin type. While I didn’t make me break out in any way—just the state of my skin took a turn for the worse and this line is all I have been using. My skin got so dry that I needed to find a sleeping mask to somehow add some moisture to my skin. This is how I found the Laneige sleeping mask and the toner that helped with my skin.

My advice to you, I would purchase the samples first to do a little trial run and see if it works for your particular skin type. Remember, just because it didn’t work for me doesn’t mean it will not work for you.

I hope you found this blog post useful. As always I hope you guys are staying healthy. If you guys have any questions, please feel free to leave me a comment.

Much love as always,

-Kat

Laneige Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer

Hello Everyone!

I hope that everyone is doing well and most importantly doing your part while we still try to get out of the woods with this while Covid-19 situation. Not sure if it’s the warm weather, or the fact that all of the flowers are finally in bloom at my house, but it feels like there is a tiny light at the end of the tunnel. I hope life can go back to normal soon!

This week I am back with another product review and I am really excited about this! It is another skincare item but this time it’s a toner. For those who have dry to dehydrated skin, you’re going to definitely want to pay attention to this.

When it comes to skincare, a lot of it for me consists of trial an error. Of course the secret to having perfect skin is making sure we are eating the right foods, drinking our water and getting enough sleep. Having the right products for your particular skincare needs and concerns is extremely important as well.

For the last few months I have been dealing with dehydrated skin. I noticed that the toner I was using was making my skin feel even more dry rather than helping. So I decided to search for another product. While I did some research on the internet I came across a little hidden gem that has now become a staple in my skincare routine. I am talking about Laneige Cream Toner & Moisturizer.

This little hidden gem has totally saved my skin! This is a unique two-and-one formula that helps prep and tones the skin while also giving it a little boost of moisture. Basically the geniuses at Laneige took all of the rich goodness of a moisturizer and turned it into a liquid that also has all of the benefits of a toner without stripping your skin! I know…wild right?! I feel like this product needs fireworks. Yes, it is THAT good! This also has White Leaf Tea Water which is rich in amino acids that adds a little boost to strengthen the skin barrier.

I purchased this item on the Sephora website and I paid roughly around $30 dollars for 5 oz or 150mL of product. There a slight scent to this, but it’s nothing too strong.  For anyone who suffer from dry, dehydrated to even combination skin…this is a must try product. I use it twice a day and it has definitely helped so much with the dry, tight feeling your face gets. I combine this with a couple of face serums and moisturizer and my skin feels nice and hydrated all day. Plus, it makes a great base before adding makeup.

If you can snag this product I can’t recommend it enough! I will be repurchasing this item once I use it all up. Honestly, I think this will become a holy grail product in my beauty routine.

If you try it, let me know how you like it! I hope you found this post useful and learned something. Please feel free to add comments or any questions!

Until next time,

Kat

Life In Quarantine Continues…

Hello Lovelies!

This post is a continuation about life in “Quarantine”. I put it into quotation marks because the reality is, my life has not changed that dramatically.  We’ve hit a month since the state of California had the order to shut everything down and although it was definitely a weird shift… I think a lot of us are getting used to a rhythm of life.

Considered to be one of the “essentials”, I have still been required to come into work. While a few of my colleagues are working from home, I’m still here doing my duty of keeping the public informed. The atmosphere at work is a bit different. We went from hugs to not even standing next to each other, we joke but now everything is from a far. It is the weirdest dynamic, that has now become somewhat normal.

The biggest change is that now on my weekends. Instead of randomly going out to eat with friends or go shopping, I’m just crazily disinfecting everything, and not going out at all.  When I do go out to the grocery store, I get a bit of anxiety. The shelves that were one stocked with essentials are now bare. I buy enough groceries for two weeks to avoid going out. I do find myself getting annoyed at the adults who are selfishly continuing to go out without any mask and not respecting the 6 feet apart order. Instead of my usual Starbucks run, I’m making my coffee at home.

I have always considered myself to be a bit of a homebody, somewhat of a loner. Now that suddenly everything has been shut down. I come to realize just how much I miss having the option. The simple option of having places to go out. It has been stripped away without any warning and i feel exactly how i did when I was grounded  The spontaneous meeting with friends to catch up on life. The simple pleasures of being able to just go to the store, being out. All stripped away and gone.

On the plus side, I find myself actually enjoying the simple pleasures of unplugging. The most positive impact I’ve noticed is on my finances. I never considered myself to be a big spender, but since being in quarantine, I suddenly see the amount of money I am now saving. It’s been three weeks since I’ve had to fill up the gas tank on my car. I have no more Starbucks run. I’m not really going out to eat anymore since I’m pretty much cooking all of my meals.  I think the last time I purchased something for myself was back in February. I find myself saving as much as I can because who knows what the future holds? So many people have suddenly lost their jobs, local businesses are struggling to stay afloat. Our whole world has suddenly been flipped on its head with almost no end in sight.

So what awaits for us on the other side of this? Are we to go back like nothing happened? Or will this make humanity a little more compassionate? A little less egocentric?

I’m curious to see what the future holds. Or how it will change our daily lives.

How has this quarantine affected your life? What positives do you see?

Stay safe! Sending all of my good vibrations to you all.

Much Love,

-Kat

Product Review: Farsali Skintune Blur

I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy as we continue to adapt to life in quarantine. I have gone back and forth about posting makeup reviews. Not sure how many people are purchasing makeup products now that everything is at a stand-still. Ultimately, I decided to post a review since it may bring a nice distraction to some, and maybe there’s curiosity for others on a product that may have had their eye on for a while. So I hope this post grabs someone’s attention and brings a nice distraction. Or at least puts a smile on someone face.

I have a product review on a face primer that a lot of people raved about when it first hit the market. Just a little background on my skin and my skin concerns. I tend to have combination skin that sometimes leans to being more dry. When I’m purchasing a primer, I am searching for an item that minimizes pores and gives me a nice flawless finish.

I decided to purchase the Farsali Skintune Blur. The product claims that it is a multi-functional serum that will reduce the appearance of pores and will give the face a “blurred” effect. It also has vitamin c to brighten and poria cocos to soothe the skin and cucumber extract. The price is $54 for 1 fluid ounce.

I must admit that I have mixed feelings with this product. I love the blurring effect that it does give my skin, but I hate the packaging! The dropper does a horrible job of actually picking up the product. The liquid itself is a bit thick to really call a serum so I found it extremely difficult to actually get any product.

A little does go a long way. It leaves a nice smooth effect especially on the t-zone and it does feel a bit tacky. There is no smell, so for all of those who are sensitive to smell you’ll definitely enjoy that.

For the amount of product that you get, I do find the price to be a bit high. In such a high competitive market, there are other primers that give you the same effect with a much lower price tag. My biggest complaint is on the packaging. I don’t think the dropper actually works at all. I would like to see this in a different packaging where it is much easier to actually grab the product to then use on the skin.

Did the product actually perform well? The answer is yes but for me the inconvenience of having to struggle to get some product to even use was just not worth it for me. I rate this a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I am skipping on purchasing this product in the future.

If you tried this product and loved it, let me know below! I love reading your comments! Until next time I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy!

Much love.

Weird Times We Are In

Hello Dearies,

Hope that everyone is doing well, staying healthy and most importantly staying at home. These are definitely some weird times we are in. Everything continues to be shut down in California. I think, that for the most part, people are doing a good job with the “stay at home order”. There are still a few people that insist on going out even though it is not necessary.

Despite a lot of people now transitioning to work from home, I along with a few other colleagues are still required to come in. The atmosphere is definitely weird. It a newsroom that’s usually filled with people… there’s now only like 6 of us here. I can’t even begin to imagine what it must be like in hospitals.

To all of our first responders, doctors, nurses, and those who work in the “essential” businesses. Know that your work is valued, we are all in it together and we’re rooting for you.

With all of this that’s going on, I have become more appreciative of the friends and family that I have. It is nice to see those messages of people who have reached out to check in to see if I am doing ok. Apart from washing my hands constantly. I don’t bring my shoes inside the house, and I immediately change from my work clothes to lounge wear around the house. Just as an extra precaution.

I avoid going to the grocery stores until I have nothing left and buy two weeks’ worth of food. Despite doing all of that, I am still nervous about getting Covid-19. I have gone into panic mode twice, not sure if my allergy symptoms are just that… or could be something else.

Thank you to all of those that are continuing to follow protocol, lets pray and hope that this will soon end. May we come out a better version of ourselves, more appreciative of what we have.

Life In Quarantine

Hello Everyone,

I hope that everyone is staying healthy. What a weird time we live in at the moment. My home state of California is in total lockdown. Everything has literally stopped and it feels like this dark cloud is hanging over us. Although I am able to work from home, I am still going in to help booth the show. What’s scary is that no one can predict the outcome. It’s all so new, that’s its sort of taken everyone by surprise.

What has all of us concerned, is the economic impact and how it will affect everyone. Especially our local mom and pop shops. With everything being forced to close down for our own protection, I can help but worry about the local shops that may have to be forced to close down.  A reporter covered a local coffee shop, that has launched an app to let customers order and pay in advanced. The owner said that he was forced to lay off all of his workers or be forced to shut down.

To all of the men and women who are working in our medical field, exposing themselves to help save the lives of others, thank you. To all of the field workers, and people who’s job are still essential to help keep things running. Thank you, I’m grinding right there with you.

Please, stay at home, do not go out if you can avoid it. Let’s try and make it easier to all of those who are working long hours to help and find a quick cure for the Covid-19.

Stay healthy and positive and lets do our part to help ease things.

Until Next time

Much love as always

-Kat
